Robinhood Chain holder concentration methodology

Nock Terminal Editorial Team

Holder concentration measures how much of a Robinhood Chain token's on-chain supply sits in its largest addresses. It is one of the most useful early-warning signals for a memecoin, and one of the most easily misread.

This page documents what a "holder" means at the address level, how top-N shares are computed, and why concentration numbers should never be confused with identity claims. Nock Terminal is an independent product with no affiliation to, and no partnership with, Robinhood Markets, Inc. Everything below describes how our own indexers compute the numbers; the underlying network is defined by the Robinhood Chain docs and its public Blockscout explorer.

Definitions

A "holder" is a distinct on-chain address with a non-zero balance of the token. Contracts, EOAs, burn addresses, and pool contracts are all addresses; classification into circulating vs non-circulating happens downstream.

"Top-N concentration" is the share of circulating supply held by the N largest addresses after non-circulating classification, expressed as a percentage.

Inclusion and exclusion rules

Included: all non-zero balances at snapshot time, read from indexed ERC-20 transfer history for the token.

Excluded from circulating (and therefore from the concentration denominator): burn addresses, recognised on-chain locks, and clearly-labelled treasury contracts. Unknown addresses default to circulating rather than being trimmed silently.

Sampling window and freshness

Balances are reconstructed from indexed transfers and reconciled against contract balanceOf calls on a rolling cadence. Snapshot times are logged so the concentration number stays reproducible for historical readings.

Calculation

Sort addresses by balance descending after non-circulating classification. Sum the top N balances and divide by circulating supply. Report N alongside the percentage — a top-10 share and a top-100 share answer different questions.

Known blind spots and caveats

Addresses are not identities. One person can control many addresses (making apparent concentration look lower than reality) and one address can custody funds for many people (making it look higher). Concentration is an on-chain statistic, not a claim about people.

Custody contracts, DEX vaults, and bridge escrows can look like whales while representing pooled user balances. Where such contracts are recognised they are excluded from top-N or flagged; unrecognised ones stay in the count.

Correction policy

If a definition, filter or calculation on this page is wrong, out of date, or contradicts a primary source, the primary source wins and we correct the page. Report errors via the contact channel linked from the Nock Terminal footer with the URL, the disputed statement, and a citation to the correct value.

Methodology changes that materially affect any published number are noted in-page with the effective date so historical readings remain interpretable.

Frequently asked questions

Does one big holder mean a token will dump? No. Concentration is a risk factor, not a prediction. It tells you a small number of addresses could move a lot of supply — it does not tell you whether or when they will. Is the top holder always the team? No. Top holders can be exchanges, bridges, LP contracts, or unrelated whales. Attribution requires evidence beyond the balance itself, which this metric does not attempt. How is the number different from Etherscan-style holder counts? Third-party trackers vary in whether they exclude burn/lock/vault addresses. This page documents our classification so the number can be reproduced or challenged.
